Three things you need to know when you’re stressed.

So. The truth is out. Millennials are the most stressed-out generation, with anxiety levels among them the highest in 80 years.

You’re not surprised. Perhaps you know all about it—the anxiety, uncertainty, the lying awake at night, the feeling of being overwhelmed. Repeatedly.
What you want to know is: “Can somebody please tell me what to do about it? How can I breathe easy again and deal with all life’s stressors with greater resilience and results?”

If that’s what you’re thinking whenever you see yet another article about frazzled millennials, we hear you. Here are three things you need to know for peace of mind.

With God, it’s not weak to be weak at all.

My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength (miracle-working power) is made perfect (shows itself most effective) in weakness. – 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV)

Many times, we get stressed because we feel like we’ve tried our best, and it’s still not enough. Or we’re just trying so hard to maintain an exterior of okay-ness, while we’re actually dying inside. But can I tell you a secret? God works miracles—and most effectively too—in our areas of weakness. He just needs us to come to Him and say, “God, I can’t do ____, help me.” And you can be sure He’ll always respond: “I will. Don’t be afraid when you see weaknesses in yourself. They are the best places for Me to show My strength on your behalf.”

You can find rest in the midst of stress.

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest.” – Matthew 11:28 (MSG)

Yep, these are Jesus’s very own words. You may be wondering: How do I come to Him when I’ve never seen Him, much less learn how to rest from Him? Truth is, He’s the all-powerful king of the universe, but… He also loves you very much. He doesn’t want you stressed but at rest in His ability to provide for and care for you. Let Him show you how to take a real rest, as you allow His words to settle your heart. Listen in: “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” In His eyes, the journey to things eventually turning around in your life begins with your soul being rested in Him, first and foremost.

Jesus’ very own peace is yours.

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. – John 14:27 (NKJV)

In fact, Jesus loves us so much that He gave us His peace. Jesus’s very own peace is yours—can you believe that? Not a temporal, man-made serenity which is found only on lazy Saturday mornings or beach holidays, but an abiding, robust peace which lives in your heart every single day. The meaning of “peace” in the verse’s original language packs a punch: It means wellness. Wholeness. Completeness, as well as peace of heart and mind. Which Jesus has, and which is all yours too.

So next time the stress hits, don’t live with it like you’ve always had. Know that Jesus’s peace is yours, and He will even show you how to take a real rest. Why’s that? Because He’ll work miracles in precisely the most broken parts of your life.

God’s really got this – it isn’t just a Christian cliché.
